Privacy policy
Last updated 26 September 2026
Walkaround (“Walkaround”, “we”) makes an app that lets window and door businesses show their clients new products on their own home. This policy explains what personal information we hold, why, and what you can do about it. We follow the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020.
Two kinds of people
- Businesses and their staff who sign up to Walkaround (“customers”). We decide how their account information is used.
- Homeowners whose house a business photographs. The business collects this information and decides what it’s for. We hold it on the business’s behalf and only use it to run Walkaround for that business. If you’re a homeowner, the business that visited you is your first point of contact, but you can also contact us.
What we collect
- Account details: names, email addresses, phone numbers and roles of a business’s staff; the business’s name, logo, colours and contact details.
- Billing details: plan, houses used and payment history. Card details are held by Stripe, not by us.
- Job details entered by a business: the homeowner’s name, address, phone and email, photos of the outside of the house, the products and colours chosen, and staff notes about the job.
- Pictures we make: artist’s impressions (and short videos) of the house with the new products.
- Client page activity: when a homeowner opens their private page, we record when it was opened, roughly how long it was looked at, which views were looked at, whether it was opened on a new device, and which buttons were pressed (such as “Book a measure-up” or “Download PDF”). This is shown to the business so it knows when to follow up.
- Technical information: basic logs (such as IP address and browser type) that our hosting providers keep to run and protect the service.
Why we use it
- To make the pictures, client pages and PDFs the business asks for.
- To let the business see and follow up its jobs, and to send staff notifications.
- To bill the business and keep accounts.
- To support customers, fix problems and keep the service secure.
We don’t sell personal information, we don’t use homeowners’ information for our own marketing, and client pages are private links that aren’t listed on search engines.
Who we share it with
We use these providers to run Walkaround. Each only gets what it needs for its job:
- Supabase (database and file storage, kept in Sydney, Australia).
- Vercel (website and app hosting, run from Sydney, Australia).
- Google (Gemini) makes the pictures and videos from the house photos.
- Anthropic (Claude) finds windows and doors in photos, checks picture instructions and helps staff write messages.
- Stripe takes payments from businesses.
- Resend sends emails such as sign-in links and notifications.
Some of these providers are based in, or process information in, Australia and the United States. We use providers that protect information in a way comparable to New Zealand law. The AI providers get only what each task needs: photos and product details to make pictures, and a homeowner’s name, address and the job notes when staff ask for help writing a message. They never get phone numbers or email addresses, and we use their paid business services, which don’t use it to train their models. We may also share information if the law requires it.
How long we keep it
A business can archive or permanently delete its jobs at any time. Deleted jobs, photos and pictures are removed from our storage. When a business closes its account we delete its information within 90 days, apart from billing records we must keep for tax purposes (seven years).
Security
Information is sent over encrypted connections. Each business can only see its own jobs, and staff sign in to their own accounts. Client pages use long, unguessable links.
Your rights
You can ask to see or correct the personal information we hold about you. Email us at hello@walkaround.co.nz. If it’s about a job, we’ll usually involve the business that created it. If you’re not happy with our response, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner (privacy.org.nz).
Changes
If we change this policy, we’ll update the date at the top. We’ll tell customers by email about any significant changes.
